The National Weather Service has issued winter weather alerts for around 70 million people from Arizona to Tennessee and up to Maine. The centre of the storm was predicted to hit the interior of the Northeast.

On Friday morning, Matthew Clay, a meteorologist with the Climate Service in Burlington, Vermont, said, “It’s a reasonably remarkable storm system.” In New England, “we’re expecting around a common seven to 14 inches of snow,” the meteorologist said.

On Friday, the Climate Service predicted light snow to fall from the Southern Plains to Wisconsin as a result of a cold front moving across the central United States. This front will strengthen, raising the possibility of a major winter storm in the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys by the weekend’s end in the eastern United States.
