Kik has taken the world by storm with the feature-rich yet secure combo. Most people think group chats are unsafe. And they are! You could be sharing your number with hundreds of people.
This is why most generic messengers are unsafe to a degree. Sharing your number with unknown people is extremely unpleasant. And with some tinkering, they could misuse your private information.
That is exactly where Kik comes in like a superhero. Kik “kicks” out the other generic unsafe messengers with a simple trick. You don’t need your phone number to join and engage in chat groups.
When you create a Kik sign-up, you generate a username. That username is used everywhere, along with your profile. This feature ensures that your private details are not visible to others without your consent. It puts you in charge of privacy. Kik has tons of features that aren’t implemented well in other instant messaging apps.
You can even use the Inbuilt browser to look up things without leaving the app. The browser can be used without ever leaving the application, which is neat. Kik’s bots are pretty awesome too. You have a wide variety of bots you can select and use. There are various bots.
Some teach your languages, and some send you daily jokes or facts. The main aim of Kik is to connect people across the world. It manages to replace standard messaging and instant messaging apps. You can use your personalized usernames to instantly converse with anyone across the world.
Kik doesn’t just allow one on one chatting. You can talk to dozens of people at one time. Kik group chatting is a great way to be in touch with your people. It allows you to remain in touch with your community as a whole.
Kik groups allow you to:
- Remain in touch with a large number of people at once.
- Join and discuss topics that you are interested in.
- Create Kik groups and communities for your hobbies and interests.
- Plan meet-ups, parties, anniversaries with your friends and family.
- Stay in touch.
- Share photos, videos, GIFs, stickers with your group.
As you can see, Kik groups are incredibly handy and keep the group feeling alive. Kik has smartly divided the group system into two areas. Public groups and private groups. Let me explain the difference.
Public Groups
Public groups are basically local groups that anybody can join. It is one of the easiest ways to make friends on Kik. If you are interested in a particular thing, you can be sure there’s a group about it. Public groups are searchable for anyone. Public groups can be joined by anyone as long as there is member capacity in the group.
To join a public group, head over to your Kik app. Then, press the ‘+’ sign and tap the Public group’s icon. There, you will see various popular public groups. You can search for the ones you want and join too.
Private Groups
Private groups are a little different from public groups. Not everyone can join a private Kik group. The member capacity is only 50. To join, you need a joining link or need to scan the QR code. Private groups are great if you need control over who is added to the group. Now I will show you how to create, add friends and join these Kik groups.
How to Create A Private Group
STEP ONE – Open your Kik app and click on the + sign on the lower right of the screen. After you do that, some icons should appear.
STEP TWO – Here, tap on “Start a Group”. You will reach a screen that will ask you to put in a name, and add members. You can add up to 50 people to this private group. Once you have added the people and picked a name, your job is done.
Next, I’ll show you how to create a public Kik group.
STEP ONE – First of all, head over to your Kik app and click on the ‘+’ sign. You will see a variety of public groups that you can join.
STEP TWO – Next, head on over to the top right corner of the screen and tap on ‘+’.
STEP THREE – Put in your group name, add your members and select a profile picture. Once you are done with the above, simply tap create, and you are done!
Now, I will explain how you can add your friends to your existing groups.
Life is bland without friends. Your group will benefit from having an active list of members. You can add your friends to your Kik group in three different ways. By searching their username, by the group QR, or by an invite link.
Below, we will start with the username method.
- BY USERNAME
Each person on Kik has a special username that is unique to himself or herself. So searching for that person and adding him or her to your group becomes easy. As long as you know the username, you should have no problem.
- First, head over to your created group and tap on your group name.
- Once you reach this screen, you will see a variety of options.
- Scroll down and tap on “Add people”.
- Here, you will be able to add to your Kik group by searching their username on Kik.
That’s it! This way, you can add anyone via their username. As long as that person is on Kik and has a username!
The next method is adding someone by QR code of the Kik group. This is one of the coolest and easiest methods. Not to mention it looks pretty cool. There is a disadvantage. You have to be physically present with the would-be member to add him/her.
- BY QR CODE
Every Kik group has a different and unique QR code. You can scan this code with the inbuilt scanner camera and successfully join a group. This is one of the unique features of Kik. It is automatic, all you have to do is scan the QR. It is easy to generate a QR and even easier to add a member using the QR.
- First, open your Kik group and tap on your group name.
- Once you have opened the Kik group info, you will see a variety of options.
- Tap on the first option, which says “Show Kik code”.
- Show this code to your friend.
- On their phone, open Kik.
- Once you are on the app, tap on the ‘+’ on the bottom right. You will see a variety of options.
- Then, tap on “Scan a Kik code”.
- This will open the camera scanner. You can now scan the QR code. This will allow people to join your group via a QR code.
This method can be used to limit the Kik group and to keep a sense of control. This also increases the security and safety of the members.
- BY GROUP LINK
This method is pretty simple compared to the above two.
- Open the created Kik group and tap on the name.
- On the top right, click on the “share icon”
- You will be able to share the group link on any other social media.
- People can tap on the link and join the group directly.
