Last Call Shameless Showrunner Says Goodbye To The Gallaghers
The debauched patriarch, played by William H. Macy, avoided death one last time despite supposedly overdosing in the previous episode, much to the chagrin of his offspring and extended family.
While Frank’s son Lip (Jeremy Allen White) and girlfriend Tami (Kate Miner) are struggling financially but excited about the prospect of having another child, and while Frank’s brother Ian (Cameron Monaghan) and his husband Mickey (Noel Fisher) are climbing the social ladder and also thinking about starting a family, Frank is ultimately taken out of the game by the coronavirus, another foe that had plagued the final season.
Shameless After 9 Seasons
After nine seasons on “Shameless,” Emmy Rossum announced her departure in January 2019, tweeting on Thursday that she was “so proud of this group” and “immensely pleased to have been a part of a programme as distinctive and profound as ‘Shameless.'”
In 2018, the 34-year-old actress wrote a lengthy, emotional Facebook post announcing her departure from the programme following Season 9.
“Feelings are difficult to put into words. Yet I will endeavour to, “Those words were written by her. “Playing Fiona has been a dream come true… Without me, I know you can go on. Still, there’s a lot more to be said about the Gallagher family. As long as I have them in my life, I will always have their backs. Don’t think of me as gone, rather like down the street.”
Rossum’s letter did not explain why she was leaving the show, but it did suggest that she felt supported and able “to extend and evolve creatively” because of her TV family.
Season 11 Finale of Shameless
In the season 11 finale of Shameless, a decade of mayhem on the South Side comes to an end. To say goodbye to Frank and the Gallagher kids, the show proceeds as follows.
However, the Shameless season 11 finale chooses not to close up the Gallaghers’ stories except for Frank, instead leaving viewers with a number of possibilities for the family’s future. To provide just a few examples, Lip may or may not have a second child, Ian and Mickey may or may not adopt a baby, Debbie will likely move out of Chicago, and Carl may or may not acquire The Alibi from Kevin and Veronica.
At the beginning of the episode, Frank is found by his family members hovering near death on the couch following an attempted suicide by heroin overdose, but nobody appears to care much about his well-being except than Liam.
Last Words
While the series conclusion left fans with many unanswered questions about what would become of the other Gallagher family members, at least they could rest assured that their favourite characters were no longer held down by the addicted man who was more of a dead weight than an anchor. Now that they’re no longer threatened by him, there’s reason to have faith.
