Mikaela Shiffrin Gets Confidence Back in Super-G
The 26-year-old attacked the high ridge line part and then flowed gleefully through the flat bottom section of the 1984-meter “Rock” ski course, where the race was unexpectedly being decided.
After the first two checkpoints, she found herself in the lead. However, she decided to take a longer route into the Haituo Bowl, and so she entered the Canyon with 0.38 seconds to make up. She finished in tenth place, 0.79 seconds off the pace. Her time was 1:14.30.
Although she is best recognised for her slalom abilities, Shiffrin has also had success in the Super-G, most recently capturing the gold medal at the 2019 World Championships. She took bronze in the competition in the 2021 world championships.
Even though she had already won the record for the most Olympic medals in a speed event, her focus on Friday seemed to be on regaining her composure. Despite her hunger, Shifrin smiled as she greeted Lara Gut-Behrami, who was sitting in the chair reserved for the leader at the very end.
