Nuggets Star Nikola Jokic Faces Possible Suspension After Violent ...

At the end of Monday night’s game against the Miami Heat, the Denver Nuggets benched star player Nikola Jokic with 2 minutes and 39 seconds left in the game. He will probably get suspended and hit with a hefty fine. The league’s most valuable player slammed into Heat forward Markieff Morris from behind in an angry response to Morris’s hard foul.

Jokic had already started to make his way down the court after grabbing a rebound. Morris, trying to stop the game as he crossed half court, committed a flagrant foul on Jokic by driving his left elbow into Jokic’s exposed right side as Jokic went up for an overhead pass. Angry Jokic ran up as Morris turned to leave and threw his full weight into a right forearm shove, knocking the Heat forward to the floor.

Nuggets’ 113-96 Victory

Jokic was ejected from the game after he committed a flagrant foul on Morris, which resulted in an instant penalty. Despite the Nuggets’ 113-96 victory, the talk of the town will be Jokic’s retribution as the Warriors and their fans watch in anticipation. Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra didn’t sugarcoat his stance when asked about it after the game. Spoelstra told the media that the play was “very reckless and filthy.”

It started with a blatant elbow from Miami’s Markieff Morris, a power forward. Then, Nuggets star Nikola Jokic responded with a blindside shove of his own in retaliation.

Jokic lost his cool after Morris took a shot late in the fourth quarter on Monday night, and the NBA suspended him for one game without pay less than 24 hours later.

On Wednesday, the Nuggets will Meet the Pacers at Ball Arena Without their Team Leader.

During the debriefing that followed the commotion late Monday night, Jokic admitted that his actions had been “dumb,” while Nuggets head coach Michael Malone refrained from commenting until he had seen a replay of the incident. But on Tuesday, the day following the Nuggets’ victory, they conducted a rare media availability, allowing Malone to provide further explanation before the suspension was officially announced.

Last Words

I really appreciate what Nikola said last night,” Malone said. As he puts it, “He understands he can’t react like that. Aware of his own importance, he realises he is overmatched on this squad.
