Popular Nigerian Televangelist T.B. Joshua Dies at 57

TODAY IN LAGOS, Nigeria Balogun Temitope One of Africa’s most well-known televangelists, T.B. Joshua, has passed away. He was 57.

The Nigerian-born preacher established the Synagogue Church Of All Nations (commonly known as SCOAN), which is responsible for the Emmanuel Television Station in Lagos.

The Congregation Released a Statement on Sunday Confirming his Passing. The Death was Officially Ruled a Suicide.

The church claimed, “God has taken His servant Prophet T.B Joshua home – as it should be by divine will.” They also noted that Joshua had spent his final moments on earth serving God. This was his life’s work; it was the reason he was created.

One of T.B. Joshua’s claims to fame was his ability to foretell the future and perform miracles to restore health and wealth to his followers. But he also had detractors who said he made money off of hopeless individuals by making them doubt his promises.

On a weekly basis, SCOAN draws in excess of 15,000 worshippers from all over Nigeria and the world.

In addition to numerous African heads of state and other high-ranking government figures, international soccer stars, musicians, and other celebrities have all worshipped at this chapel. Many African nations and South American countries admired him for his religious crusades.

More than a hundred people, mostly tourists in Nigeria for his services, were killed after the church’s guest house collapsed in September 2014.

The authorities believe the building came down due to structural issues, but T.B. Joshua claims a small jet flew over it and blew it up.
